Q1. Let’s start with a brief introduction about yourself – when did you join PSG, what passions or interests have you developed during your time here?
Hi, I'm Mahreen Bhatia, an MYP5 student here at Pathways School Gurgaon. I joined the school as a blossoming 4 year old in Nursery and since the past 12 years I have never looked back! My passion for golf blossomed over the years in Pathways, and the school has always supported me throughout my journey.
Q2. What initially sparked your interest in golf, and how did you get started in the sport?
I remember the day like it was yesterday—a peaceful weekend morning disturbed by the clatter of two pairs of spiky golf shoes running up the staircase eagerly! My best friend Anaisha and her grandfather, known to be early birds, pulled me out of bed and hurriedly asked me to put on a collared t-shirt and a cute little skirt. The two dragged me to the golf course, offered me a beginner golf set along with some balls and that’s how it all started. Soon, our afternoons were spent on the course, navigating fairways and giggling over missed shots!
As days turned to years, my unconditional love for the game deepened to form an unbreakable bond. Every afternoon after school was spent at the golf club, grinding at the range and playing the course. Now, eight years down the fairway, golf isn't just a game; it's my heartbeat, my safe place, my challenge but at the same time, my joy!
Q3. Could you share some memorable moments or highlights from your golf journey so far? How did the school support you in your growth?
One of my most memorable highlights of my golf journey was during summer of ’24 which I spent in the United States. While playing the Future Champions Golf Tour Callaway WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, I shot a course record of 8 under on day 2 of tournament play. This lead to me winning the tournament eventually with a total score of 11 under par! Furthermore, this achievement wouldn’t be possible without the support of the school teachers particularly the Middle school principle Ms. Dimpu Sharma as well as her executive assistant Ms. Deepmala Dahiya were of great help in supporting me towards my endeavours by granting me multiple leaves for extra golf practices and tournaments. Moreover, my teachers and peers were extremely supportive by uploading various notes, resources and PPT’s for my perusal.
Q4. What challenges have you encountered along the way, and how have you overcome them?
Being a Student-Athlete in an IB school was definitely a challenge due to the various projects and portfolios and time-management was essential in the process. During the school year specially MYP 5, I struggled with the same however, I was able to cope up with my school work with the help of my friends and teachers to eventually receive high honours academically.
Q5. Lastly, what do you envision for your future in golf, and how do you plan to pursue your goals?
As a competitive golfer, my vision for the future is grounded in dedication, discipline, and a relentless pursuit of excellence on the course. I aspire to compete at the highest levels of the sport. I intend to play Collegiate golf as a boost to my educational and golf career providing me with a pathway to the professional tour. To achieve these goals, I am committed to a training regimen, constantly refining my skills, honing my technique, and developing a growth mind set. With the guidance of experienced coaches, the support of my school and family, I am confident in my ability to carve out a successful career in golf and leave a lasting impact on the sport.
