India has made significant strides in regard to vaccinations around the country, where, in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic over 88% of Indians eligible for the Covishield and Pfizer-Biontech vaccinations have been vaccinated. However, there still is a major gap in vaccinations around the country - where vaccinations such as Hepatitis B, Rubella and Polio have still not been administered in many parts of the country.

Due to this major gap, I, alongside Drona Kapoor decided to start Secure Your Shot - an initiative that aims to bridge the gap that is present in vaccinations around India. Our most pertinent goal is not just to vaccinate Indians around the country - however, it is also to educate and raise awareness about vaccinations throughout the country - through this initiative we want to help reduce the number of deaths that occur every day, due to preventable diseases.

To start with Secure Your Shot, we decided to set up camp in Pathways, where we aimed to vaccinate our school help against Hepatitis B - a highly contagious disease that attacks and breaks down the liver.

The first step in this entire process was to obtain a sponsorship from a hospital, a hospital that could supply the vaccinations and allow for this drive to take place effectively. Hence, we partnered with KK Health Care Center - located in Sector 5 Gurugram. Where Dr. Vijay Kapoor agreed to supply the Hepatitis B vaccinations.

We then partnered with the Infirmary, where we were able to set up a pop up vaccination drive with a system that would allow for the vaccinations to be given to our school efficiently. Soon the day of the vaccination drive dawned (April 13th) - and over 50 of our Didi’s and Bhaiya’s were called to the infirmary in order to receive their Hepatitis B vaccination.

On the 22nd, we finished our second round of vaccinations - where we vaccinated our Didi’s and Bhaiya’s with Hepatitis B once again - allowing for the continuation of the vaccination program.

We now aim to move out of Pathways and into the villages of Haryana, where we can continue our mission of bridging the gap with vaccinations in India.
