Green Pathways
The First and only school chain on Planet Earth with LEED-EB Platinum Rating
“The 'United States Green Building Council' (USGBC) has recognised Pathways School Gurgaon for their 'Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design' (LEED) thus conferring Pathways with the honour of being the first and only school chain serving all grades K-12 in the world to achieve LEED-EB Platinum Certification. Among all the educational facilities worldwide who have achieved this top distinction which includes one High School and a small number of Universities, our campuses are the highest rated.”
At Pathways Schools we believe that in addition of our mission of imparting holistic education, it is our duty to sensitise our students about sustainability. And what is the better way then to make them experience and immerse in a sustainable life through their every day activities at school. Hence when designing the school we particularly emphasised creating a Green Campus with Zero Discharge. The design takes a cue from traditional Indian Architecture where old Forts and Palaces remain cool in summers and warm in winters. True to our belief that there are multiple pathways to learning, there were two challenges that we took on while building the school:
- To find simple and unconventional approaches that take full benefit of natural energies and least use of complex technologies;
- To achieve a Green Architecture saving 8-10% in project cost, in the process, disproving the general notion that to build green you have to spend an additional 10%.
Thinking with an open mind, challenging the present norms of the industry, keeping things as simple as possible, we devised our progress plan and accordingly built the Pathways Campuses. And the results have been rather over whelming:
- Our total energy requirements are 40% less than that of conventional buildings;
- Our total HVAC (Air Conditioning) requirements are 60% less than that of conventional buildings;
- And we saved about 8-10% in our building costs too.
We thank all the stakeholders for being part of this journey. Together we strive to make a better world tomorrow!
