The students of Pre-Nursey celebrated the spirit of diversity with West Bengal ,its culture dress, food and greeting in Bengali. They further explored about Korea, painted its flag and greeted each other in Korean language. Nursery students learned to greet one another in different languages through action songs. Some of the languages they learned of included Japanese, Italian, French, and various Indian languages.
In Kindergarten, Language Profile Day was celebrated by all members of the learning community. Members of the parent community put together artefacts and shared images and stories to familiarize students with the cultures of India and France. In PYP 1, students went on a mini world tour as each class had transformed into a country with its decor and display of artifacts. PYP 2 students explored the richness of different languages by showcasing the magnificence of the language they know to their peers. PYP 3 students were encouraged to engage in activities that highlight the importance of linguistic diversity through music, dance, poetry, vocabulary enhancement and storytelling. PYP 4 students embraced the values of an international minded citizen and acknowledged the diversity of cultures and languages by reflecting on how the parent session broadened their perspective about various cultures and their traditions around the world through a Think, Pair and Share activity.
PYP 5 students were involved in a thought provoking and stimulating session on ‘Identity and Belonging’. Various engagements were planned to understand the essence and sense of belongingness. ‘Word-scape Wonderland’ was created for the students to read books in languages other than English. PYP students displayed the learner profile attribute of being Open-minded, Caring, and Knowledgeable as they embraced learning about new cultures and languages.
