iCAN STUDY is an incredibly valuable program headed by Dr Justin Sung. It focuses on helping not only students but employees to grasp their academic or professional pursuits more efficiently. On 25th October, Dr Justin Sung, assisted by his team conducted a session for 2 hours to aid DPCP1 and DPCP2 students with their study techniques.
Dr Sung started off by explaining the importance of “work smarter, then harder.” He urged the participants to abandon the dilemma of “work harder” versus “work smarter" instead advocating a blend of these two approaches. He emphasized on the fact to cancel the idea of “work harder” or “work smarter, not harder.” The concept he created develops a balance between working smart and working hard and how those two actions come together to give students the best results for their learning! Creating an atmosphere of comfort and interactivity, Dr Sung used various illustrative methods to get his learning across. For instance, through examples such as the law of diminishing returns, graphs, and the case of Chirag, a student who formerly relied solely on hard work, the students grasped the crucial lesson that effort alone doesn’t guarantee academic success and sometimes it can lead to one's downfall.
Dr Justin Sung helped us learn the key and most basic technique to study which is the blind mapping method. The blind mapping method was explained to the students by a practice session where they were told to look at the keywords, find similarities between the keywords provided, create groups based on the similarities, prioritize the groups and finally map a flow between the groups. This not only helped students understand what the technique is, but how to apply it, and how it creates an impact on one's memory. The blind mind mapping technique relies on your high order thinking and not the low order thinking, which helps the students understand the power of higher order thinking and how it is more efficient for one's memory and grasping power. Through the theoretical framework of “Bloom’s revised taxonomy” students were able to understand the importance of using higher order learning.
Dr Justin Sung and his team not only challenged students to push themselves but also equipped them with valuable tools for effective study. Through the engaging and enlightening session, students left with a better understanding of how to efficiently use their time to study and maximize their learning potential.
