Finally, election season has arrived, while there are major political election events going on in various governments around the world, us panthers have our own little selection process for the student body. This year, the student council elections was all about embracing personal identity and discovering how we as students can contribute to the school environment, broadening our mindsets in multiple aspects listening to other’s opinions as well. Here is a glimpse on the enlightening and fruitful events that took place which led to this year’s student council.
Student council is more than just a badge and labeled authority, it’s a platform where young leaders can collaborate to innovate suitable solutions for the school, to represent their peers, listen to concerns, and create positive changes within the school community. It symbolizes as a bridge between the students and the school administration, making sure to foster unique identities and ideas. Moving on, the student council process consists of 3 significant steps to determine the final students chosen. The first round of the elections focuses on self-nomination, where students select themselves forward for the council. It highlights majorly on the student’s personality (strengths and weaknesses), its more than just a form to fill, students may tend to re-discover themselves, reflecting on their behavioural actions, and understand ding how we can make an impact being in the council. Each candidate brings a different perspective that can make the council more diverse and inclusive.
Furthermore, in the second round, the process is split into two parts: interviews and group discussions. For MYP 1-3 students, it’s all about teamwork. There was a group discussion conducted, being given a topic to discuss on and develop diverse opinions. As we engaged in a discussion which emphasized on listening to each other and building upon other’s ideas. For MYP 4 students, the focus is more individualized. They go through personal interviews where they get the chance to showcase their vision for the council, their leadership skills, and their ideas on how to bring positive changes to the school. Last but the least, the 3rd and final round, all about speeches! This is a process where the chosen candidates till now who have passed the first 2 rounds share their perspectives on how they can contribute to the school’s development. This is where candidates have the opportunity to present their vision to the student body, expressing their goals and how they plan to make a difference. It’s a chance to inspire others, connect with the audience, and showcase their leadership potential.
In conclusion, student council elections was fruitful and eventful for the students to witness and go through. Every year they open doors for insightful opportunities, allowing students to explore their leadership, team-working and problem-solving qualities. The process promotes creativity, inclusivity, and respects diverse opinions. his journey is a celebration of our identities, our ideas, and the endless possibilities that lie ahead.
