If Historical Figures Had Social Media: How Would They Use or React to It?
Imagine if you were Shakespeare, Cleopatra or even Einstein, and suddenly few modern-time teenagers pushed you into a compacted box-like time travel machine. Taking you to your future (our preset/2024), how do you think you would feel? How would you process the fact that a cellular device about the size of our hands, in other words- phones, are one of the most controlling and crucial possessions of our lives. Or even the excessive use of social media in times of today, it really is just beyond our imagination.
In comparison between 14 November 2024 and 70-100 years back, there have been drastic changes in various fields like jobs, social status and hierarchy, entertainment and even behavioural attributes. The legends who made their existence a revolutionary mark in this world like Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci, Mahatma Gandhi etc. may not be able to comprehend the vast expanses of social media and the fast paced world we live in. Before, young girls and boys used to play outdoors in the fields with their friends with allot of physical activity, now young minds invest their time in social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat etc. or even exploring new technologies. But not all of them may have the same reaction, taking into example- As a visionary thinker, Leonardo da Vinci would be fascinated to explore and venture in tools like digital arts, artificial intelligence, and the internet, leaving him with numerous imaginative ideas. However, Mahatma Gandhi as a strong and prominent leader fulfilled with simplicity and mindfulness, may reflect upon these tools with concern. Viewing the modern day practices as a distraction to individual lifestyles. while many historical figures would likely appreciate the knowledge and connectivity modern technology offers, they might also remind us to use these tools with purpose and balance. They’d probably encourage us to look beyond screens, connect in real life, and never stop being curious about the world around us.
In imagining how historical figures might respond to modern social media, one thing becomes clear: while they’d likely appreciate the reach and influence these platforms offer, they’d also remind us of the value of balance, authenticity, and mindful usage. After all, the best use of technology is one that uplifts us and brings us closer to a shared vision of growth and unity.
