The Ethical Debate at the LIT Unlimited Competition in Pathways School Noida was an incredibly rewarding and intense experience. Me and my team competed in two rounds, I faced Lancers in the first and DPS Noida in the finals, each presenting unique challenges. The format we used was the World Schools Debating Championship or the WSDC style, which made the event even more engaging. With 10-minute rounds, each team had to present, defend, and counter arguments in a limited timeframe, requiring clear communication and precise rebuttals.
The first motion we debated was about the government mandating vaccinations for children, a complex issue. This topic allowed me to delve into public health ethics, personal freedom, and societal responsibility, which are all deeply interwoven. It was interesting to debate both the moral obligation to protect vulnerable populations and the counterargument that parents should retain autonomy over their children’s health decisions. The second motion focused on government access to private citizens' data to prevent terrorism, another complex topic balancing individual privacy with national security. This debate encouraged me to consider multiple perspectives on government control, ethical boundaries, and how society views personal rights in the face of security concerns.
Participating in this debate helped me enhance my social, communication, and debate skills, which I have been building over a year. The fast-paced rounds tested my ability to think quickly, present ideas clearly, and listen actively to opposing points. Each moment was a learning experience, helping me grow as a debater and communicator.
