A Symphony of 48 Birds – Pathways School Gurgaon Buzzes with Biodiversity
At Pathways School Gurgaon, nature is more than a backdrop — it’s an active part of the learning experience. This was beautifully highlighted during a recent visit by renowned wildlife photographers and environmentalists Dr. Vikram Singh and Mr. Pankaj Gupta, along with Mr. Jivitesh Singh, the youngest award-winning wildlife photographer in the country.
Their mission? To capture the birdlife that quietly thrives across our green and vibrant campus. And what a discovery it was — 48 different bird species spotted and documented, each bringing colour, life, and energy to our school grounds. Their visit revealed not just the presence of birds, but a story of how biodiversity can flourish when a space is designed with nature in mind.
Among the highlights were the endangered Egyptian Vulture — a rare and vital ecological indicator, the vibrant Alexandrine Parakeet, the elusive Indian Grey Hornbill, and the Yellow-footed Green Pigeon, a sign of healthy, fruit-bearing tree cover. They also spotted the Great Cormorant, often seen near water bodies, and the Coppersmith Barbet, known for its distinctive call that sounds like a coppersmith striking metal.
There were many more charming residents to observe — the elegant Eurasian Hoopoe with its spiky crown, the cheerful calls of the Oriental Magpie Robin, the ever-busy Common Tailorbird, and the chatty flocks of Jungle Babblers. Even soaring Black Kites and seasonal visitors like the Common Chiffchaff made an appearance, adding to the delightful diversity.
Each bird, whether large or small, common or rare, plays a role in the story of our campus. Their presence reminds us that when we care for our environment, we create space for life to thrive — not just for humans, but for every living being that shares our world.
At Pathways School Gurgaon, learning goes hand in hand with environmental awareness, giving students the opportunity to engage with nature as part of their everyday experience.
This celebration of birdlife is a reflection of Pathways School Gurgaon’s deep-rooted values — respect for nature, sustainability in practice, and a belief that learning extends beyond the classroom walls. Our fields and open spaces are more than just beautiful — they’re living habitats, learning zones and peaceful sanctuaries all rolled into one.
